The New 2010 Ford Explorer

The 2010 Ford Explorer SUV has many features designed to keep you and your family safe on the road. Here are some of the safety features that you will find in this vehicle:
Electronic Stability Control (or ESC).
This system which is rapidly gaining in popularity on new vehicles, helps keep drivers in control of their vehicle if they need to suddenly brake or swerve in order to avoid an obstacle on the roadway. It works by reducing engine power or applying the brakes to some of the wheels if it senses that the steering does not match the direction of the vehicle.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
As many serious accidents occur because of driving with inappropriate tire pressure, a system which measures the quantity of air in the tires and alerts the driver to any possible under-inflation.
Advanced Airbag Features.
As automotive safety technology has progressed, many improvements have been made to airbag systems which make decrease the chances of occupants being seriously injured in a crash. Modern airbag systems are designed to take many factors in consideration when determining at which speed and strength to deploy the airbags, such as the weight of the seat occupant and the speed at which the vehicle was traveling prior to impact.
Side and Head Airbags.
The Ford Explorer also features an airbag design that further helps protect the front seat occupants heads in the even of a collision. It also has side airbags which offer valuable protection to occupants in case of a rollover crash.

The New Lexus LPA Supercar

The Lexus LFA can be regarded as the most anticipated and awaited car for the year 2011. The hype is all around even though the car is not out yet. The arrival of Lexus LFA was announced in Tokyo on October 21, 2009. Since then, this super car has been much speculated. It was announced in the press release that this two-seat super car will go in to production at the end of 2010 as the latest model of the Lexus "F" premium sports car series.
The specifications of the new rear-drive Lexus super car are: a 4.8-liter V10 with 560 ps (552 bhp), 354 lb-ft torque, a zingy 9,000 rpm red line, six-speed sequential gearbox, 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 202 mph. The impressive specification with the pictorial first looks of the car is not doing much to satiate the awaiting crowd of people.
One unique feature is the driver centeredness of the super car, in which the driving seat is positioned near the LFA center of gravity. The driver placement is done like this to provide maximum car-to-driver feedback, especially under sport or high G-force driving conditions. LFA also features some elements of a true luxury car, including comprehensive equipment levels that include dual-zone climate control and Hard Disc Drive satellite navigation systems.
When Lexus LFA is compared with Japanese super car, the Nissan GT-R, the Lexus clearly wins the game of a better power to weight ratio at just 3,263 pounds. But, the matter of cost comes in. The Japanese super car, Nissan GT-R, is considered a good performance bargain, while the same cannot be said about Lexus LFA. The LFA is going to be exclusive with just 500-units worldwide, but it sure will come with a price tag.
The clean, simple and sleek exterior styling of LFA also reflects both the L-finesse approach to orderly design and the mechanical wholesomeness that lies beneath its compound skin. Its numerous air-intakes and aerodynamic features also fulfill a practical role first and an aesthetic role second.
The LFA is a low-slung two-seat cockpit that has been intelligently designed. It is logically divided into three interior zones. The first is the mechanical zone, the skeleton that underlines the performance of the super car of LFA. Second is the human zone, the seats to support occupants, even during extreme driving. And finally, it is the driving zone, the interface that brings driver and machine together.
The buyers of LFA will be granted the privilege of choosing between 3 different configurations, 30 exterior colours, six brake caliper colours and 12 interior colours. The UK launch price for the LFA is €368,000 (approximately £336,000).
The development of latest LFA by Lexus reflects an important moment of success and expertise in development of car industry, specifically super cars. A team of dedicated and passionate engineers should be credited for creation of Lexus LFA. They have pushed the limits of expertise and performance, in order to come up with Lexus LFA. The latest Lexus LFA will hopefully carry forward the legacy of super cars and live up to its expectation and anticipation.

iRACER Electric Race Car Westfield Sports Cars Concept

As the exhibitors at Geneva report the Westfield iRacer represents 99% of the production model. Designed by Elliott Hawkins, a graduate from the Royal College of Arts vehicle design course, the iRacer has the pulse of electric power running through its veins. A number of materials including aluminum and recyclable plastics were used for body construction.

Westfield iRacerReduced fuel consumption and lower emissions are what’s seen a lot these days on the latest production models and concept vehicles. But don’t think that performance will lag for these green cars.

One prime example is Westfield Sportscars’ iRACER, an all-electric race car created to win competitions. The car’s designer is Elliott Hawkins, a graduate from the world renowned Royal College of Arts vehicle design course. Westfield Managing Director, Julian Turner said that the concept has a bold look and is “99% representative” of the production vehicle. The iRACER uses the following materials: composites, aluminum, recyclable plastics and a stretched lycra skin over an aluminum framework. As a result, the car’s body is lightweight, low-cost, and aerodynamically efficient. Project Manager, Paul Faithfull, said that some materials (like fabric) has major benefits for racing but is obviously unfit for road use. When in a race, it’s of value that the bodywork can change in a few minutes, and that changing the color and sponsors, as well as repairs can be done quickly.

Created in conjunction with project partners Potenza Technology, Delta Motorsport, RDM Automotive and Coventry University, the iRACER has a 40 kilowatt YASA motor directly turning each rear wheel, which together are said to be good for 200 horsepower at peak output and provide 737 pound feet of torque (1000 Newton meters). Race range is thought to be 50 to 60 miles. As well as a bit of wind tunnel tuning, the team plans to develop independent power delivery to the wheels in an effort to improve performance on the track. Perhaps more controversially, they also intend to devise a new noise generation system that might "give the iRACER aural drama to match both its looks and performance."

"The use of materials such as fabrics has limited scope for road use, but has major benefits for racing," says Paul Faithfull, iRacer project manager. "Imagine being able to change your bodywork in a matter of minutes, with a new body stretched over the framework, changing the colour, sponsors or just effecting rapid repairs. It is also extremely light compared to almost all alternative materials."

The concept weighs 600kg (1,323 lbs), is 3.6 metres long and is rear-wheel-driven. Its Lithium Phosphate battery helps the motor make 80kW (109 PS) and 1,000Nm at the wheels. The 0 - 60mph sprint is said to take under 5 seconds and top speed is limited to 177km/h. Westfield reckons a race range of between 80km and 97km (50 and 60 miles) is possible.
