E-Commuter design by Ho-young Joo, Soo-han Cho and JinSeok Song Solar-powered Vehicle

The team members, all majoring in industrial design, belong to the CLOTHO, which is a transportation design study group at SNUT (Seoul National University of Technology). We always try to challenge many international competitions for enhancing our talent.
The brainchild of designers Ho-young Joo, Soo-han Cho and JinSeok Song, the E-Commuter is what the streets of today will need for a green tomorrow. The concept has been designed to reduce air pollution that is caused by running vehicles on conventional fossil fuel engines. Ho-young Joo, 25, is now working in his internship at LG Electronics. He is a two-time finalist for Michelin Challenge Design. Soo-han Cho, 23, is currently doing his military requirement.

This next-generation concept vehicle will run clean on electricity, which will be provided by onboard solar panels. These solar panels will automatically track the sun and align themselves for maximum solar exposure. Energy generated by these panels will be stored in a battery.
Suffering extreme traffic congestion, the number of people using cars to commute is increasing. The exhaust from vehicles causes serious air pollution and deteriates the supply of fossil fuel. The next generation car should be a complete electric vehicle over the hybrid concept by using sustainable energy sources.

E-Commuter uses two kinds of cells. Using Photovoltaic power generation to charge the upper solar cell, and the insufficient energy of E-commuter can be supplied by Outer-battery. The outer-battery of E-commuter can easily attach/detach and be moved because of the wheels. E-commuter uses its outer-battery when you are in long-trip or it cannot generate energy so much because of the low amount of sunshine. The wheels of E-commuter uses the theory of repulsive-type maglev float by using the magnetic power. The wheel has no friction, it absorbs vibration and makes the electric-efficiency better. Thin slick tires aimed at the bicycle using 700c wheels show great energy efficiency in traveling through urban districts.

If the solar battery depletes and is not able to recharge itself, the vehicle also has a backup battery that can be recharged from a wall socket. The wheels of the E-Commuter absorb vibration and reduce friction for better efficiency. The designers believe that the E-Commuter will be able to hit a speed of up to 120mph, without clogging the streets with toxic smoke.

The 1997 Toyota Hilux


My Hilux is a 1997 Toyota with leaf springs all round. The Toyota Hilux was originally built way back in the 1980s with leaf spring suspension, and then when the SR5's came out independent front suspension was brought in. After 1997 the other normal hiluxes became independent front end too, which frankly for serious four wheel driving can cause issues.
Independent suspension is generally better for on road use, but off-road it isn't as strong or reliable and doesn't offer the same amount of flex. In saying this, they are still good cars. My Hilux has the leaf springs all round, and as a result is incredibly robust. I have put a set of 33 inch Maxxis bighorns on it, and it will keep up with all of the land cruisers and patrols out there. It doesn't have any difflocks, but the LSD at the back seems to help every so often.
I love the fact that My Hilux weighs so little. When you consider that some of the new four wheel drives today weigh almost 3 tonne and my car only weighs 1.5 you can see why they are such capable little machines. The only gripe that I have with it is that a 2.4 liter engine isn't very powerful. However, on a positive note they are incredibly economical, and not that slow on road. To make mine even more economical I converted it to gas, which gives it a good range for driving long distances.
The Maxxis Bighorns have to be the best modification I did. They are 12.5 inches wide (slightly wider than the standard tires) but a lot more aggressive. I have used mine so far for over 20 thousand kilometers and have yet to fault them. They wear hardly at all, are very grippy, bulge well when you let the tires down and love the mud. It's a great car!

Hidden Gems North of Perth
There are quite a few hidden gems found north of Perth. The farmstead at Wagoe is something that very few people know about, but it is one of the best places you can ever stay for fishing and snorkeling. Lucky Bay is just south of Wagoe, and as long as you are well set up for camping you will have a ball. Both of these places are about a 5.5 hour drive north of Perth, but they are well worth the drive.
I would suggest that you need a four wheel drive for both locations (especially Lucky bay). Wagoe you can get to the farmstead without one, but you would have to walk down to the beach every time that you wanted to go, which would become a real issue. By car, it's only a 3 minute drive, which is great as you can roll out of bed, throw the fishing gear in the car and roll down the hill. The beach there has masses of reef, and you can catch some huge fish. Every time we go there we have an absolute blast. The accommodation at Wagoe is much cheaper than in kalbarri, although it is not exactly luxury!
If you prefer something even cheaper you could consider lucky bay. This has a brilliant reef which runs about 100 meters parallel to the beach, about 50 meters out. The reef stops all of the bad weather, and snorkeling on the inside of the reef is always pretty decent. On a calm day though, you can head out the back and see some huge fish!

The 2010 Audi Quattro


The new 2010 Quattro from Audi comes with all new designs and features and will be versatile enough to tackle any kind of road conditions, particularly the snow covered roads. In addition to capability to handle all the road situations, the new Quattro model will also provide enhanced drive comfort and safety features.
The 2010 Quattro from Audi is a luxury touring vehicle with the features similar to that of a sport utility model. Performance will be the key feature for the new Quattro variant. Beyond the car's valuable engines, the other standard features in the next generation Quattro include, electronic brake force distribution, pneumatic suspension that provides good ground clearance for all the driving conditions, electronic stabilization program technology, five valves per cylinder in the engine block, electronic differential locks, all road Quattro technology that supplies equal power to all the wheels and electronic brake force distribution.
The next generation Quattro model is expected to be released in the last season of 2010. The new 2010 Quattro comes powered with 4.2 liter V8 engine and is also expected to offer bi-turbo 2.7 liter V6 engine as an option for the coupe model. The features in the new Quattro include Audi symphony stereo, power memory seats, leather wrapped seats, driver information system, high strength roof, xenon head lights, and skid plates.
With the powerful engine, the new Quattro is expected to achieve the mileage of 12 miles per gallon in the city premises, while it can achieve 19 miles per gallon on the highway roads. The new model will be provided with all wheel drive and comes mated with 6-speed manual transmission with double plate clutch.

Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro concept.

Audi presents its latest concept, the A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro which once again displays awesome diesel power but this time in a model that the we can can all realistically think about attaining.

Despite the looks of a pimped A3, what you see here is a high tech sports, lets start with the hub of the concept, under the hood. Closely related to the R8 TDI Le Mans Concept, a 2.0-litre, common rail fuel injected TDI unit provides the power with a maximum output of 224 horsepower and 450Nm of torque. It is mated to six-speed transmission which drives the power to the 20 inch wheels with the quattro all-wheel drive system, stopping power is provided by six-piston brake calipers and ceramic discs on the front wheels. These impressive figures are well matched with its performance figures, 0-62mph is achieved in just 6.6 seconds, top speed lies at 149mph.

To compliment this powerful TDI engine, Audi have a number of technologically advanced systems incorporated with the highlight being the Audi drive select driving dynamics system which allows the driver to vary the throttle response characteristics of the exhaust sound, the level of power assistance for the steering and the cut-in thresholds for the ESP stabilization system. The dampers also deploy a magnetic ride technology which allows the system to react to changes in driving situations in lightning speed.
The exterior gets an extremely aggressive body kit which certainly gets the attention with the powerful front fascia with huge vents and the Audi signature grille whilst the rear gets a DTM-style rear spoiler and check those bolt on wheel arch extensions.

Audi describe this concept as a one-off show car, but considering we have just seen what looks like a production version of the completely unproducable (or so we thought) TT Clubsport Concept, we wouldn't be surprised to this one follow the same route.

Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro 2008Audi, the inventor of TDI, blazes a trail in the field of engine manufacture. At the 27th annual Lake Worther Tour being held at the end of May in the Austrian province of Carinthia, the brand behind the four rings is showcasing this technology's potential with a sensational study. The 2-litre TDI unit under the bonnet of the Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro delivers 165 kW (224 hp) and musters up 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque – the sort of pulling power normally associated with a sports car. The show car races from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.6 seconds and attains a top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph).

The Audi A3 TDI clubsport quattro projects its power with supreme confidence – both acoustically courtesy of its sonorous exhaust and visually with a series of exclusive parts mounted on the body and in the interior. Exterior components such as the large DTM-look rear spoiler and the bolt-on wheel arch extensions give the car a dynamic air, while the racing bucket seats and open gear lever gate in aluminium form the highlights of the interior.

t's times like this one when I really hate the fact I'm not rich enough to buy a Maserati. One year after being revealed in Geneva (2007), the new Maserati GranTurismo (the Spyder) was caught testing at Nürburgring.

Things were first delayed because Ferarri had to work on their California model, but now everything is rolling. And smooth it goes. The new Spyder is a short version of the Maserati GranTurismo coupe platform featuring a 405hp 4.2-liter Ferrari V8 engine with a 6-speed ZF automatic transmission.
