After last week’s announcement that the Italian automaker Ferrari is planning on topping off their lineup of exotic dream machines with an all new super car to head up the high performance lineup and celebrate nearly 70 years of success with a car that is currently codenamed the F70. The new super car will serve as a successor to the Enzo and there are also rumors flying around that it will also be offered as a hybrid.

According to recent reports, the Ferrari 599 GTO comprises several key features of the 599XX, a new car uncovered back in 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show.

A few days back, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa confirmed the launch of the GTO, which is considered as a more focused version of the current GTB and HGTE models.

With 650bhp under the hood and a weight reduced to less than 1650kg, the GTO fits right in with the other Ferrari's. It is also likely that the 599 GTO will feature the higher performance ferrous iron brake pad technology initiated by the XX model, with the addition of a more aggressive gear shifting software and elements of the aerodynamic upgrades found on the 599XX.

The Named after its Italian designer Fabio Ferrante and his girlfriend (whose name begins with V, apparently), the curvaceous Design V is a concept you can genuinely envision seeing out and about on the roads of Italy. However, its design is largely based on American muscle cars produced during the '60s – mainly the 1967 Chevrolet Impala that has a starring role in cult TV show, Supernatural.

The V Concept is a study of a modern four-seater sportscar that pays homage to the 1967 Chevrolet Impala, reinterpreting in a modern way the proportions and a number of styling cues of the 1960s American Muscle Cars. Though the Ferrante Design V sounds more like a posh new perfume (“For him, for her – think Ferrante”), in fact it’s the name of a luxury 2+2 sports coupé concept vehicle.

A key similarity to the Impala can be seen in the Design V’s elongated and low bonnet, though Ferrante has added his own person touch – evident in those swollen wheel arches that are almost impossible to miss.

Sadly, the designer has no plans to put the concept into production – but he says that if it were to become a reality it would be powered by a hybrid powertrain, adding to the appeal of this already desirable car.

Let's hope Chevrolet comes across it, because we think it would sit nicely alongside the American marque's current line-up of cars.

Ferrari 599 hybrid

Ferrari 599 hybrid

More details on the Ferrari 599 hybrid concept that is set to be shown at the Geneva motor show have been revealed by company boss Amedeo Felisa.

Felisa revealed to that a 599 hybrid test mule has been running for a year now, and that its fuel consumption is around 25 per cent less than the standard car's.

However, the hybrid technology adds around 80kg to the standard car (pictured here), and it is unlikely to be seen on a production Ferrari for five years.

“The technology is not ready," he said. "The suppliers are not ready. Everything is underdeveloped. There is a lot of work to so. It is not for tomorrow. We haven’t decided when [it will be introduced]. It will be around 2015, but not before five years.”
